Jeffrey A. Mitchell is a partner in Dickstein Shapiro’s Business Litigation Practice. As a commercial litigator for 30 years, he has successfully handled countless complex business disputes, many through appeal, concerning structured investments, financial services, securities, contracts, partnership, real estate, employment, and intellectual property. Jeff has won many multimillion dollar judgments and arbitration awards and has obtained the dismissal of numerous multimillion dollar claims brought against his clients.


Jeff represents banks, securities and investment banking firms, opportunity and hedge funds, financial consultants, brokers, real estate developers, web companies, manufacturers, retailers, and family-owned businesses. He also has extensive experience in the jewelry and luxury brands industries and has arbitrated and mediated many disputes before FINRA and its predecessors, as well as before the American Arbitration Association and JAMS.


Before joining Dickstein Shapiro, Jeff served as a director in the New York office of Gibbons P.C., a prominent regional firm headquartered in Newark, New Jersey. Before that he was the co-head of a 40-person litigation department at a well known New York firm. He started his career in the early 1980s and has also previously managed his own firm in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.


Jeff is an avid tennis player and a longtime member of the famed West Side Tennis Club in Forest Hills, New York.

  • American Property Consultants, Ltd. vs. Kriozere

    Obtained a summary judgment of more than $6 million on behalf of American Property Consultants, a financial advisor, against a developer for fees earned in connection with a $300 million condominium project in San Francisco.

  • American Property Consultants, Ltd. vs. Zamias

    Obtained a judgment of $10 million after a jury trial against a national shopping center operator.

  • Beautiful Jewellers (Private) Limited vs. Tiffany and Company

    Obtained summary judgment on behalf of Tiffany and Company dismissing a $13 million wrongful termination suit brought by a distributor of luxury brand jewelry and merchandise in India.

  • Snyder vs. Tiffany and Company

    Obtained a dismissal of claims for license fees brought by a renowned model and designer for luxury brand manufacturer and retailer Tiffany and Company.

  • Finkelstein v. Mardkha

    Obtained dismissal of claims that challenged inventorship and patent ownership of a diamond design that is licensed exclusively by Tiffany and Company, and is the centerpiece of its “Legacy” jewelry collection.

  • Bear Stearns & Co. vs. Lehman Brothers Inc.

    Obtained an arbitration award from an industry panel of $9,642,000 for Bear Stearns in a dispute between brokerage firms over the payment of fees for back office services.

  • In re: Credicom Asia, Ltd.

    Part of a team that prosecuted a $170 million liquidation of the corporate owner of the Aman Hotel and Saresco duty free shop chains in Tortola, B.V.I., the largest case ever heard in that jurisdiction at the time.

  • Permasteelisa S.p.A v. Lincolnshire Management, Inc.

    Successfully defended individual shareholders in a $25 million fraud suit brought in the New York County Supreme Court in connection with a corporate acquisition.

  • Deephaven Distressed Opportunities Trading, LLC v. 3V Capital Master Fund, Ltd.

    Obtained summary judgment on behalf of hedge fund for breach of agreement to purchase bankruptcy claim.
