Jim Kelly is Chairman of Dickstein Shapiro. He guides the leadership and strategic direction of the firm’s legal practice and business objectives, and oversees all aspects of the firm’s operations. He is instrumental in the firm’s dedication to providing superior client service, and leads the advancement of the firm’s business model, strategic investments, and growth through a strong commitment to the firm’s core values of excellence, loyalty, respect, initiative, and integrity.
Prior to becoming Chairman, Jim served as the leader of the firm’s national Corporate & Finance Practice and spent more than 20 years as a business attorney focusing on structuring and negotiating complex real estate, finance, and general corporate transactions.
Jim is a member of the American Bar Association’s Business Law and Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Sections, and the District of Columbia Bar Association’s Real Property Section.
Jim participated in the Zeughauser Group (Law Firm Leadership Roundtable; November 2013), Harvard Law School Executive Education Program (Leadership in Law Firms; October 2009), and the Hildebrandt Institute Program (Large Law Firm Managing Partner Roundtable; April 2009).
He received an Outstanding Achievement Award from the District of Columbia Bar Association in June 2009 for his work in connection with the relocation of the Bar’s headquarters.
OUTSIDE THE FIRM
Jim served from 2005 to 2011 as a member of the Advisory Committee for the Community Economic Development Project of the District of Columbia Bar’s Pro Bono Program. He is a regular faculty presenter to pro bono attorneys serving the needs of small businesses in the District of Columbia and helped develop the pro bono attorney training manual for small business clinics.
