Dickstein Shapiro Morin & Oshinsky LLP Elects Jeremy Cubert, Maria Colsey Heard, James Martin, and Robert Moss as Partners
(Washington, DC) – Dickstein Shapiro Morin & Oshinsky LLP elected four attorneys, Jeremy A. Cubert, Maria Colsey Heard, James R. Martin, and Robert J. Moss, to Partner effective January 1, 2005.
Jeremy A. Cubert
, Partner in the firm’s Intellectual Property Group, focuses his practice on intellectual property law including patent prosecution, patentability and non-infringement opinions, licensing and technology transfer, and litigation. Mr. Cubert has been employed in the area of technology transfer and intellectual property law since 1992 with an emphasis on the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and chemical industries. Prior to joining Dickstein Shapiro, he served as a staff attorney for the Federal Trade Commission and the National Cancer Institute. Mr. Cubert earned his J.D. at George Mason University School of Law in 1995, and his M.S. in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in 1989.
Maria Colsey Heard
, Partner in the firm’s Litigation & Dispute Resolution Group, focuses her practice on cases involving public policy, mass torts, and constitutional law. She has litigated both against and on behalf of government entities in state and federal courts. Ms. Heard currently represents a client in state and federal court regarding the importation of foreign prescription drugs, and she represents clients in connection with the implementation of products liability class action settlements, including nationwide synthetic stucco and silicone-gel breast implant settlements. Ms. Heard also has worked on lead-based paint claims and has developed proactive solutions to childhood lead poisoning. Prior to joining Dickstein Shapiro in 1995, Ms. Heard was a judicial clerk for Judge Steffen Graae, Superior Court of the District of Columbia, and a law clerk at the National Education Association of the United States. In 1993, Ms. Heard earned her J.D., with honors, from The George Washington University Law School.
James R. Martin
, Partner in the firm’s Litigation & Dispute Resolution Group, focuses his practice on antitrust litigation. Since joining Dickstein Shapiro in 1999, Mr. Martin has represented a group of companies in multibillion dollar price-fixing actions involving vitamins and animal feed additives; a group of international companies seeking damages for worldwide antitrust violations in the graphite electrodes industry; and, presently represents a group of companies in a series of price-fixing actions against integrated paper companies. Mr. Martin has published articles relating to procedural and substantive aspects of civil Sherman Act claims and, last year, he drafted an amicus brief that was submitted to the U.S. Supreme Court in support of companies seeking damages for overcharges they paid to vitamins manufacturers. Prior to joining Dickstein Shapiro, Mr. Martin practiced at Simke Chodos, a Los Angeles-based boutique firm, where he focused on business and complex litigation, RICO, insurance coverage for policyholders, employment, unfair competition, and commercial law. Mr. Martin earned his J.D. from Loyola Law School of Los Angeles in 1994, Order of the Coif.
Robert J. Moss
, Partner in the firm’s Litigation & Dispute Resolution Group, focuses his practice on civil litigation pertaining to government contracts issues and claims, particularly before the U.S. Court of Federal Claims and the General Services Administration Board of Contract Appeals. Mr. Moss also has litigated disputes before the U.S. District courts and the D.C. Superior Court. In 1994, he joined the litigation group at Reed, Smith, Shaw & McClay’s Washington, DC office. He joined Dickstein Shapiro in 1995 as an associate. Mr. Moss was awarded both the Dickstein Shapiro Morin & Oshinsky Justin D. Simon Core Values Award and the Bread for the City Outstanding Volunteer Award in 2002. He earned his J.D., with honors, from The George Washington University Law School.
