WLMA’s “Executive Presence: How to Dress for Success,” Washington, DC, November 17, 2011
Dickstein Shapiro and Navigant hosted a WLMA event on how to dress for success with guest speaker Lauren Rothman, a fashion, style, and trend expert and founder of Styleauteur. Ms. Rothman is regularly featured in the media, covering a wide range of topics from fashion trends and style strategies to wardrobe management. Event attendees learned how to dress for work without losing a personal sense of style.


WLMA’s “Lessons for Success—A Conversation with DC Area Women Business Leaders,” Washington, DC, May 4, 2011
Dickstein Shapiro and Navigant hosted a WLMA panel discussion on innovative leadership concepts, and how to identify and take advantage of new career opportunities. The event took place in our Potomac Conference Center and featured moderator Karen Lockwood of The Lockwood Group and panelists Tammy Duckworth of the Department of Veterans Affairs, Tina Sung of the Partnership for Public Service, and Eileen O’Connor of the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan.


NAWL Networking Night Of Giving: Taking A Stand Against Human Trafficking, Washington, DC, April 14
Dickstein Shapiro sponsored NAWL’s Night of Giving event hosted by McDermott, Will & Emery LLP. The event featured a panel discussion on recognizing and combating human trafficking in the Washington Metropolitan Area.


Law Firm Diversity, University of Pennsylvania School of Law, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, April 8
Dickstein Shapiro Chairman Mike Nannes was a guest speaker at the University of Pennsylvania School of Law, where he discussed the challenges involved in managing a law firm diversity program. Mike covered topics including the evolving expectations of clients, particularly large corporations, and the steps that firms are taking to meet them. He also shared personal insights gained building Dickstein’s diversity programs and from working with other legal industry leaders.


WLI Hosts Marsha Redmon’s “Let’s Do Lunch,” Washington, DC, February 10, 2011
The WLI welcomed consultant Marsha Redmon to the firm’s Washington, DC office to host an interactive luncheon for women attorneys on how to turn a casual lunch into a business development opportunity. Ms. Redmon demonstrated what attorneys can do now for more effective, targeted business development that flows naturally.


Law & ReOrder, Washington, DC, December 14, 2010
Dickstein Shapiro and the Women’s Leadership Initiative hosted a program and reception featuring author Deborah Epstein Henry discussing her newly released book LAW & REORDER: Legal Industry Solutions for Restructure, Retention, Promotion & Work/Life Balance. The program also featured Senior National Correspondent Claire Shipman of ABC News, Senior Vice President and General Counsel Thomas L. Sager from E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Company, and the firm’s Chairman Michael Nannes, and was followed by a reception and book signing.


National Association of Women Lawyers (NAWL) Second Summit, New York, NY, December 7, 2010
Partner Debbie Skakel spoke at NAWL’s second Summit at the New York City Bar Association in New York, New York. The NAWL Summit was a small, invitation-only event that examined how best to achieve the NAWL Challenge of advancing women in the legal profession.


Sixth Annual NAWL General Counsel Institute, New York, NY, November 4–5, 2010
Firm Chairman Michael Nannes participated on a panel, “Engaging Men in Gender Initiatives: What Change Agents Need to Know and Stacking the Deck for Success,” at NAWL’s Sixth Annual General Counsel Institute.


DuPont Women’s Legal Network (DWLN) Mini-Conference, Washington, DC, November 2–4, 2010
The firm hosted the DWLN Mini-Conference on November 2–4. This event brought together DuPont’s in-house counsel and preferred outside legal and service providers for an interactive two-day discussion on topics of particular importance to women. This year’s program featured Dr. Erika Falk, author of Women for President: Media Bias in Nine Campaigns; Kellyanne Conway, President and CEO of the polling company™ inc./WomanTrend; Susan DiMickele, author of Chasing Superwoman: A Working Mom’s Adventures in Life and Faith; Manar Morales, Deputy Executive Director, The Project for Attorney Retention; and a political roundtable which focused on the impact of the mid-term elections.


Sex and the City 2, Los Angeles, CA, May 26, 2010
On May 26, 2010, the WLI, in coordination with The Alliance for Children’s Rights, hosted a cocktail reception and private advance screening of Sex and the City 2, a follow up to the firm’s 2008 networking reception and screening of Sex and the City. Women’s Leadership & Mentoring Alliance (WLMA), “Women and the Power of Negotiation,” Washington, DC, May 5, 2010
The firm hosted a WLMA networking and informational event featuring speaker Sara Laschever titled, “Women and the Power of Negotiation.” Ms. Laschever, author of the books, Women Don’t Ask and Ask For It, discussed the importance of asking for what you want and practicing negotiation.


National Association of Women Judges’ (NAWJ) Mid-Year Meeting and Leadership Conference, Washington, DC, March 11-14, 2010
Partner Elaine Metlin was co-chair of the Host Committee and the firm was a Platinum Sponsor for the NAWJ Mid-Year Meeting and Leadership Conference. Female attorneys were invited to attend breakfast with the Congressional Caucus for Women’s Issues, an evening reception with Justices Ginsburg and Sotomayor and Justice Hall (of the UK’s highest court), a private guided tour of the Holocaust Museum followed by a panel presentation by DC Judge Kessler, and a luncheon presentation featuring Tina Tchen, Director of the White House Office of Public Engagement and Executive Director of the White House Council on Women and Girls.


WLI hosts Marianne Trost, “Empowering Women Lawyers to Succeed in Business Development,” Washington, DC, March 4, 2010 
The WLI hosted a luncheon featuring Marianne Trost of the Women Lawyers Coach. Ms. Trost provided the attendees with strategies for how to maximize one’s own natural strengths to develop a book of business, expand business development venues, and other tips for growing a client base.

Firm Chairman Michael Nannes participated on a NAWJ panel titled, “Flexing the Workplace.” This roundtable focused on how to win the war for talent by rethinking the way work gets done. Lisa Belkin, the “Life’s Work” columnist of The New York Times and contributing writer to The New York Times Magazine, moderated the panel.

The WLI hosted a cocktail reception and private screening of Sex and the City in Los Angeles on June 3, 2008. The event provided an arena for intimate, high-level networking among women in-house counsels and senior executives.


2008 Hastings Leadership Academy for Women, San Francisco, CA, May 29-31, 2008
Firm Chairman Michael Nannes participated in the 2008 Hastings Leadership Academy for Women on a program titled, “Building Alliances with Men.” This executive education program was designed exclusively for female law firm partners and is affiliated with the University of California Hastings College of the Law. At this program, Mr. Nannes discussed how women can effectively communicate and collaborate with men in a law firm environment.
