We work to foster an environment that is consistently employee- and family-friendly and maintain focused efforts to attract the most talented women attorneys. In 2005, the Women’s Leadership Initiative (WLI) was created to develop and promote women attorneys at all levels of the firm as business generators and leaders.
Our dedication to the advancement of women in the legal profession has been recognized throughout the industry, and we have come a long way since hiring our first female partner in 1981. For example:
The deputy general counsel, two members of the Executive Committee, and four of our five chief officers are women;
In the 2010 edition of
MultiCultural Law Magazine
, Dickstein Shapiro was named a “Top 100 Law Firm for Women,” as well as a “Top 100 Law Firm for Diversity,” and a “Top 25 Law Firm for Native Americans”;
In 2009, Dickstein Shapiro topped the Project for Attorney Retention survey with 67 percent of its new partner promotions going to women in the firm; and
In 2006, Chairman Michael Nannes received the Women’s Bar Association of the District of Columbia’s “Star of the Bar” award for improving the professional lives of women attorneys by encouraging their development and retention.
